How to Participate

As many start-up NGOs, HELP began as a strictly volunteer-run organization, with volunteer staff supported by a volunteer Board of Directors, HELP began making real differences in the lives of many.

More than a decade later, HELP International is now a worldwide organization, operating on almost every continent with full- and part-time staff keeping the wheels turning. But HELP still needs you. Volunteers efforts still make up the large majority of how HELP can do what it does, with the help of a large variety of individuals HELP will continue to grow and serve larger numbers of communities around the world. Not sure if your skills, experiences and background are useful for HELP? Think again, HELP's always looking for individuals from many backgrounds to make a difference, locally or globally...or both!

Participants

Program participants, or volunteers, work in Belize, El Salvador, Peru, Fiji, India, Nicaragua, Thailand, Tanzania, and Uganda, where they plan and implement sustainable development programs. Participants can spend anywhere from six weeks to four months in-country. Please be aware that program participants fund their own program expenses of $2,950 plus airfare. Many participants are able to coordinate with their academic institutions to qualify their experience for course credit, making this volunteer experience also an impressive internship within their field of study.

Campus Representatives

Domestic Interns

HELP International accepts US-based interns and volunteers and is willing to work with your institution to set up a program. Every semester HELP offers unpaid internship opportunities in the areas of human resources, public relations, recruiting, training, grant writing, finance and more. If you have a specific field of study not listed here but are interested in supporting HELP International's progress, feel free to get in touch with our office staff to set up a time to meet with our Human Resources department, we may just be looking for what you have to offer!

HELP looks for motivated individuals that can work on their own as well as with others. Individuals applying to be interns should be willing to learn to new skills and take initiative. While these internships are unpaid, our interns are rewarded by practical work experience, the opportunity to interact closely with the staff, and the chance to further our social mission.

Apply your talents to making HELP improve every day! Applications are taken on a rolling basis.

Country Directors

Country Directors are paid managers who serve as project developers and team coordinators for HELP participants around the world. Two Country Directors are chosen for each team. Country Directors coordinate all in-country projects, build partnerships with international NGOs, government agencies and other institutions, act as liaison to HELP’s US office, and facilitate all program logistics such as team project fundraising, and team building. HELP Country Directors must commit to one year, including four months of full-time work in-country. This four month commitment is from late April to late August of every year. The other 8 months are entirely manageable as a part time commitment and many Country Directors are in school or hold full-time jobs outside of their HELP International position. Country Directors are HELP’s primary point of contact in-country and responsible for maintaining HELP's reputation and image. Applications for positions as Country Directors are accepted each year between September and November for the following year's program, with positions being filled usually in December.
