In-Country Projects
The Power of a HELP Participant
HELP International is different from other organizations because we believe in the power of our participants to initiate and manage their own projects. Though many people come in-country and are plugged into already running and established programs, many volunteers take the opportunity to engage their own projects and recruit other volunteers to help with it. We recruit highly capable participants who are given over 20 hours of training to help in this effort. Participants are set up with trusted partners and supported by Country Directors. Participants can create projects that fit their own talents and interests, while being responsive to the specific needs of a community. Because of this, HELP International is involved in a wide range of projects.
All projects can be placed in one or more of the HELP Core Competencies of Community Education, Entrepreneurship and Public Health. For more information about these see our Core Competencies page. More detailed information about specific projects can be found under each core competency.
Empowering communities and partnering for sustainability
In most cases, the solutions to a community's needs can be found within the community itself. HELP participants work with local leaders to address needs expressed by the local people. With participants in each country for only four months each year, part of the HELP International recipe for success is partnering with local organizations to ensure the continuity of our programs even after participants return home. For more information on how a HELP project is completed, see our Project Flowchart.
Training PowerPoints
Each yearh HELP attempts to improve the quality and direction of training programs that participants are given before leaving for their projects abroad. Below find some of our training materials for the 2011 programs.
